We strive to ensure all of our children are happy, safe, experience success and achieve their full potential, regardless of their needs. Our provision for children with additional needs stems from our school ethos – providing children with high quality education through an array of learning strategies in a nurturing and accessible environment which enables them to flourish. We strongly believe our parents are the key to understanding their children so we work closely with all our parents to help us guide, support and challenge their child throughout their time with us.
Our SEN team consists of:
All of our children, regardless of their needs, are taught a broad, balanced and enriched curriculum that is tailored to meet their individual needs.
· High quality teaching is the first step in supporting all our children. Every child is encouraged to do their best.
· As a team, we rigorously monitor children’s attainment, progress and individual targets and involve our children and their parents in these processes.
· We offer an array of interventions that are tailored to individual needs even within those that a small group based. These are regularly reviewed with regards to the children’s progress and their effectiveness.
· In our school, members of teaching staff have a wealth of expertise and experience in numerous areas of SEND and training is ongoing to all teaching staff.
· Promoting positive relationships is part of our school ethos and we work closely with specialist agencies to support our children and develop our own expertise so that barriers can be overcome and children are given the very best opportunities in their education
· All of our children’s health and wellbeing are paramount. Pastoral care is provided by all members of teaching staff. All of our teaching assistants are trained in supportive listening.
· Our qualified school counsellor supports children in need of the service on a weekly basis.
· Thought and consideration is put into transitions between year groups, key stages and starting/leaving our school. These processes are again tailored to a child’s individual needs.
· Medical needs are managed by working closely with parents and healthcare professionals (if needed) to ensure children are not disadvantaged and fully involved in school life.

· Hurworth’s doors are always open to ensure a strong and positive partnership between parents and school.
Our school has several policies which directly impact upon the provision we provide children with SEN and ensures that we fully comply with the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Regulations (2014). These provide more detailed and valuable information in relation to the SEND provision at Hurworth.

The Government has asked all Local Authorities in the UK to publish, in one place, information about the services and provision they expect to be available in their area for children and young people from 0 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND). The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) is a free impartial service on issues related to Special Educational Needs and disability. Parents can turn to this service for specialist advice and guidance beyond the school even if their child is not diagnosed with a need. Please see the link below.
